USB passthrough: Any ESXi version support this?
« on: October 08, 2014, 01:58:47 AM »
I've only ever used ESXi 5.5, but are there any versions that support USB redirection or passthrough out of the box?  I know 5.5 doesn't but does 5 or 5.1?  I'm in the process of virtualising my HTPCs and USB passthrough is a necessary requirement but I don't want to pass the whole port through if possible.

Cheers,

Chris

ESX 5, 5.1,and 5.5 *ALL* support USB passthrough.  Not all USB chipsets *support* it.

In my case, all of the USB controllers on my z800 show up in the device list under 5.5, but each time I forwarded an individual device ID to a VM  (I haven't gone through all of them -- yet), it causes an error and the server has to be rebooted.

On my ASRock Extreme 3, the USB 3 controller shows up while the USB2 controllers don't.
